A lot of people came to the music of Gary Jules through his cover version of Tears for Fears' "Mad World," which appeared in the 2001 movie Donnie Darko. Since then, Jules has continued to make a name for himself without conventional radio airplay. His song "Falling Awake" was used in a popular episode of Grey's Anatomy, which brought the song into the Billboard Top 100 based on digital downloads alone. The song was originally an "optimistic letter" to his son, as Jules notes in his introduction.
